The Azrieli Foundation

Since 1989, the Azrieli Foundation has funded organizations in Israel and Canada that are in line with its philanthropic values. The foundation chooses the projects it supports carefully – programs that are driven by innovation, fostering knowledge and understanding.

Why support

Canadian Friends of Sheba

The Azrieli Foundation chose to support Canadian Friends of Sheba Medical Center as it partners with Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer in Israel in three important arenas. The first is research into Fragile X syndrome, a genetic disorder caused by a single gene mutation. Those with Fragile X syndrome can suffer from a range of developmental issues, including autism, and require lifelong treatment.

The Foundation also supports training endeavors with the Israel Center for Medical Simulation (MSR) located at Sheba, which prepares physicians and other medical professionals for difficult medical scenarios in a safe and effective manner through the use of high-tech medical mannequins. The third area of collaboration is with Sheba’s new, innovative cardiovascular tower – which includes Israel’s first comprehensive stroke treatment center.

“Our history with Sheba goes back over a decade, starting with support of the cardiac surgical ICU,” says Naomi Azrieli, Chair and CEO of the Azrieli Foundation.

“Although we have supported three very different programs at Sheba, the common thread between them is excellence – excellence in training, education and clinical care. Sheba is justifiably ranked in the Top 10 hospitals in the world by Newsweek, and MSR is a national center of excellence. The model of clinical care and research being offered in the Fragile X Premutation Unit holds a special interest for the Foundation. We are extremely proud to be supporting this leading hospital.”

David Azrieli

David Azrieli z”l , was a committed and visionary philanthropist. As he once notably said in 2007, “I have been fortunate to be able to take what I have learned, earned and amassed and used it to help others. This is my vision: to be able to use the tangible rewards of my career in building and construction to create a legacy…in both of my two homelands.”

Today, David Azrieli’s philanthropic vision continues through the Azrieli Foundation, one of the largest philanthropic foundations in Canada and in Israel.

Whether helping those most in need or advancing healthcare globally:
when you support Sheba, you are making a difference.
