Ten-year-old Vera traveled with her mother from Ukraine to Safra Children’s Hospital in Sheba Medical Center in Israel for a lifesaving catheter valve replacement. Explains Dr. Sharon Borik Chiger, a senior pediatric cardiologist at Sheba Medical Center who led Vera’s operation, “What was special about this case was the low body weight. This is the smallest girl we have ever cared for in the country. This means that we can now give similar care to smaller and smaller children.” Thankfully, the operation was successful and Vera is now recovering.
